Bon Lin Elementary is proud to announce that one of our artists, Brittney Maxey, from Mrs. Jue’s class, has won first place in the 3rd – 4th Grade Division of the Regions Bank Go Green Contest. The assignment was to draw a picture of something that your family is doing to help the planet, something you are doing to “Going Green”.

Congratulations Brittney! We are proud of you!

Colored Pencil Society of America

Letter from Mrs. Kirby:
I’m Vivien Kirby’s mom and I work at the BPACC. There is an artwork display we have until October 29th. It is a display from the Colored Pencil Society of America. The artwork is amazing to be colored pencils! I just wanted to let you know about it if any of the students or parents would be interested in coming by and taking a look. There’s no charge for looking!

Thanks a bunch!

Moving Olympians

Our Fourth graders just recently finished a tribute project to the Olympics. We used movable human stencils and put them in positions of athletes from the Olympics. We then used monochromatic colors to paint them.

Summer Olympics 2008

This year our fifth graders have commemorated the 2008 Summer Olympics with a cooperative class project. We used the grid method of enlargement to create six large-scale drawings of different scenes from the Olympics. Each class chose a specific picture from the Olympics and then we sectioned each picture into twenty-four separate squares. Each fifth grader took an individual square from the picture and drew and colored it in their own way. It was tricky because every student had to seek out the other students who had the sections that would connect to their own section in the big picture. They are hanging in our cafeteria right now and, boy, are our arms tired.

Fun With Idioms

Have you ever heard the idiom Snug as a Bug in a Rug? Well, here in the Bon Lin art classrooms we took that idiom literally. Our first grade classes all made there own bugs and then we made each bug their own rug to snuggle up in. We aren’t Pulling Your Leg on this one. We are As Serious as a Heart Attack, Folks. Life is Just a Bowl of Cherries and this is just The Tip of the Iceberg. Laughter is the Medicine of Life and we are so silly that I bet you can’t wait to see our next project. Well… Hold Your Horses.

Our Canadian Geese Guests

kkkmmmnA few weeks ago we looked out of our windows and noticed that we had some visitors at our school. Every morning a gaggle of Canadian Geese would land in front of our school and inspect our lawn for bugs and other things that geese find yummy. We were so pleased that these geese had made Bon Lin one of their pit stops along their way that we decided they deserved some kind of tribute for their long trip to Bartlett TN. So, our first grade studied what they looked like, and then we used oil pastels to draw portraits of our new friends. Our guests have since flown on to their next destination, but that is all right because we now have our own gaggle of Canadian Geese hanging on the walls of our hallways at Bon Lin.
